Wedding planning can become very overwhelming, very fast. But we know the most delicious place to start… with cake! In this blog post, we will break down the wedding cake ordering process from start to finish; so you know what to expect from Sweet Bites when creating and enjoying your dream wedding cake.
FIRST STEP: CONSULTATION & CAKE TASTING
Here at Sweet Bites, the first step in the wedding cake design process is your no obligation consultation with one of our senior decorators! At this appointment, you will sit down with our team and discuss all the little details. From what number of tiers or cakes you will need to suit your guest numbers, to the colour palette and design.
At this appointment, you will also be able to enjoy a complimentary cake tasting (which we think is the best part of wedding planning!). This gives the couple the opportunity to enjoy and experience some of the flavours we offer on our flavour menu, and from there you can build your ultimate combination of flavours for each tier.

If you’re overseas or unavailable to visit our Auckland store, get in touch via our quote form here. We also offer mud cake sample boxes via our online store, perfect for if you’re organising a wedding from outside of Auckland or if you’re short on time!
STEP TWO: SECURING YOUR WEDDING DATE
Depending on when your planned wedding date is, we can never guarantee availability. After the design process, we do require a non-refundable deposit to secure your wedding cake booking; which will be discussed with you by the Sweet Bites team. From here, we don’t require any further payment until one month out from your wedding date!
STEP THREE: COORDINATING FINAL TOUCHES
At the time of consultation, you may decide that you want to add details such as toppers or fresh flowers that will be arranged outside of Sweet Bites! This may require you talking to your florist about setting aside flowers specifically for the cake, or making sure the topper is ready prior to the wedding date. We usually require these final touches to be provided to Sweet Bites a few days before the wedding, so please talk to your decorator as to when this will be needed!
Please note, if you’d rather us do so, we can supply items such as flowers and custom toppers to take the stress from your hands. Feel free to talk to our team as to how we can help.
STEP FOUR: DELIVERY OR COLLECTION
On your wedding day, we like to make sure you have as little to worry about as possible! Here at Sweet Bites we offer Auckland wide delivery of our cakes, to multiple different venues. This is a guaranteed way to ensure your cake stays in the hands of experienced professionals, from delivery to set up. If your cake is being delivered by our team, please ensure that the cake table is set up by your venue ready for delivery!
If you’d prefer to collect the cake, we will run you through the best practice to ensure your cake arrives safely at its destination. Our team will run you or the chosen driver through how to best transport your cake on collection of the cake!
STEP FIVE: LET THEM EAT CAKE!
The last step is simple; enjoy your special day, and special wedding cake! We hope your wedding day is everything you’ve dreamed of, and miles more.
